First Orbit the movie – Gagarin’s first flight recreated

I enjoyed the rich color spectrum of the earth. It is surrounded by a light blue aureole that gradually darkens, becoming turquiose, dark blue, violet, and finally coal black.
-Yuri Gagarin

Documentary film maker Christopher Riley with some help from the good folks at ESA and NASA created this amazing movie following Gagarin’s flight path as close as possible. Adding the original radio traffic and some cool archive footage. Now 50 years later we can see for ourselves what Gagarin saw during his flight as the first man in space.
